The subject of superfoods and healthy food has always sparked my interest, I always want to know more about the facts and non facts about the claimed benefits of certain foods. With me sure a bunch of other people, so I might think of a way to get more transparency about certain foods and their impact on the climate, which is fairly important too.
In my opinion it is very important to stay close to the source of your food and nature. These days humans are so disconnected from it that's it's no wonder that the earth is at risk, we pollute without seeing immediate consequenses and eat food without thinking twice about where it comes from. I think that if you bring the two, nature (and food resources) and humans back together, people will make way better choices. I think way more people would prefer fresh eggs from happy chickens than from the horrific bio industry if they saw both right before their eyes. It would be even more affective if you try this with children, as they're less conditioned and make more choices from their heart it seems sometimes (I work with various children).
I haven't eaten meat in about four years, been fully vegan for around half a year and I now eat mainly plant based but with eggs (from my own chickens soon) and a little dairy from time to time. I have always wondered why I have to supplement vitamine B12 in my diet, now I know. B12 is added to lifestock's food, which I knew, but we need it in our bodies because we used to eat dirt with our veggies etc. Yes, dirt. We didn't wash it back in those days, and that fruitful soil was full of that vital vitamine. Which is why we add it to our (mainly animal based) foods these days, and have to supplement it if we don't eat enough of those foods. I think this is a very interesting topic and says a lot about humans and our origins, and, even more important, the importance of good soil. It is vital for human life, an insight I gained during this research.
Composting and reducing foodwaste can be done fairly easily, no matter your living circumstances (in the city or on the land). If loads of people would do it, it would have a massive positive impact on our environment, as foodwaste is one of our biggest and dumbest polluters. How can you get that message across to people?
A big interest of mine is sustainable energy and the future of it. It seems like the options are constantly evolving and I'm curious about how we will power the world in a few decades. How are regular households a part of that? How can we make more people excited about renewable energy?
Cosmetics are also very interesting to me. This is just a random bottle of mosquito repeller I found in my room, how do I know what's inside? I don't know these terms, how can we create more transparency regarding this topic? This brand even claims to be "natural". I found out that "Paraffinum Liquidum" is a mineral oil made out of petroleum, which we know is not the most sustainable oil. I also found an article on it which states this ingredient is not as healthy. What are ways to create your own cosmetics, or in this case, mosquito reppelent, in a natural way that is also at least a bit more sustainable than most widely available products?
Water turns out to be a more difficult subject than I expected. I didn't realize the water crisis was so real, I always thought that there would always be enough water because of the natural water cycle. Now I know that only a small percent is actually drinkable and easily available, which was a big insight gained during this research. But what are comfortable ways to save water at home? Only flushing your toilet once a day might be a big step, but putting some sort of cup in your shower to catch water to water your plants with might be a little easier to begin with.
During the research of this subject I started wondering about a lot of things. As I've never really thought about salt and it's use and origin. As I've did some research on superfoods earlier and what's true and false about this hype, the hype of Himalayan and other salts belong in the same topic. Many claim this salt has many health benefits, but is that true? In what ways can we avoid trends and fact check more ourselves? Salt is also mainly used in certain rituals etc. around the world. You even have salt rooms like the picture you see on the right. Is it sustainable and actually healthy to participate in these rituals? What alternatives have the same positive health impacts? I wonder. There are also old rituals of salt making. Can we honour these rituals in the global salt industry?
The topic of why some spices are more popular than others sparked my interest during the research.
Something that's very important in my opinion regarding all the following topics.
